My Picture Quiz turns your own photo library into a private guessing game.

My Picture Quiz is an iPhone app that turns the photos already on your phone into a personal quiz. Each round shows five of your own photos and asks where they were taken. The four answer options are real cities you have actually visited, drawn from your own library — no stock imagery, no invented places. After every answer comes the reveal with a map, the year and your score.

The idea started on the lock screen. Apple's Photo Shuffle showed developer Sebastian Grehn a different photo of his own every day, and surprisingly often he could not remember where he had taken it. The result is a game only you can play: every question comes from your own memories, so no two players ever see the same quiz.

Photo selection and place resolution run entirely on the iPhone, and no account is required. My Picture Quiz is free on the App Store, with the first rounds free and a subscription for unlimited play. It is available in English, German, Spanish, French and Japanese and requires iOS 18.

How it works

The app reads the photos and their location data on the iPhone, picks the best pictures with on-device quality scoring, and resolves places against a place database that ships inside the app. Photos are never uploaded, and place resolution does not need a network connection. Screenshots, documents and receipts are filtered out automatically.

The story

“The idea came from the lock screen. Apple's Photo Shuffle shows me a different photo of my own every day, and surprisingly often I could not remember where I had taken it. That moment — a great picture, no place attached — became My Picture Quiz: the question turned into a game, with your own photo library as the question bank.”

The app is built by a single developer, Sebastian Grehn, under his company STG Ventures GmbH in Flein, near Heilbronn in southern Germany. It has been on the App Store since June 2026 and has shipped an update every month since.

Die iPhone-App My Picture Quiz verwandelt die eigene Fotomediathek in ein persönliches Quiz. Jede Runde zeigt fünf eigene Fotos und fragt: Wo wurde das aufgenommen? Die vier Antwortmöglichkeiten sind echte Städte, die man selbst besucht hat — aus der eigenen Mediathek, ohne fremde Bilder und ohne erfundene Orte. Nach jeder Antwort folgt die Auflösung mit Karte, Aufnahmejahr und Punkten.

Die Idee entstand am Sperrbildschirm: Apples Foto-Shuffle zeigte Entwickler Sebastian Grehn jeden Tag ein anderes eigenes Foto, und erstaunlich oft wusste er nicht mehr, wo es entstanden war. Daraus wurde ein Spiel, das nur man selbst spielen kann, weil jede Frage aus den eigenen Erinnerungen stammt — kein Quiz gleicht dem anderen.

Fotoauswahl und Ortserkennung laufen vollständig auf dem iPhone, ein Konto ist nicht nötig. My Picture Quiz ist kostenlos im App Store erhältlich, die ersten Runden sind gratis, danach schaltet ein Abo unbegrenztes Spielen frei. Die App gibt es auf Deutsch, Englisch, Spanisch, Französisch und Japanisch, sie läuft ab iOS 18.

So funktioniert es

Die App liest Fotos und Ortsdaten direkt auf dem iPhone, wählt die besten Bilder per Qualitätsbewertung auf dem Gerät aus und ordnet die Orte über eine mitgelieferte Ortsdatenbank zu. Fotos werden nie hochgeladen, die Ortszuordnung braucht keine Internetverbindung. Screenshots, Dokumente und Belege bleiben automatisch außen vor.

Die Geschichte
